This was an interesting project for a client who wanted a lot of storage and wanted the cabinet to conceal a disconnected fireplace. The piece was designed so that the fireplace could be accessed in future through a removable back, and could even be uninstalled without the removal of the unit, if required.

The unit is made from 18mm MDF, with the client opting to paint the piece themselves. The unit is made up of three cabinets, two smaller units either side of a large middle unit that houses the fireplace. The shelf spanning this unit was so long that it had to be reinforced with two further strips of MDF to prevent sagging. This was done with a mitre joint that gives the illusion that the shelf is made of one thick piece of material.

The doors are on touch latches, this negates the need for handles and compliments the piece’s clean, minimalistic design and aesthetic.
